Geographical quirks in Europe can be very misleading for non-Europeans too: such as Kirkenes in Norway being further east than Istanbul!

I am a British-Hungarian citizen.
If you allow me to point out a little error, then it is about Hungary’s geographical categorisation.
Hungary is not in Eastern Europe, nor is the Czech Republic.
These two are as much Central European as Austria itself.
According to the official map of Central Europe, Hungary and the Czech Republic are in this area.
Hungary also has a famous university called Central-European University in its capital Budapest.
.
In a strategical and economic point of view Hungary is the connection between East and West.
It is officially the part of Central-Europe and not that of Eastern Europe as I said.
It was the former satellite state of the Soviet Union before the 1990s, and so it counted as part of the eastern block, and so in a superficial sense it was mentioned as an Eastern European country which it never was.
The geographical location of Central-Europe contains the countries of Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.
Everything to the west of Germany is Western Europe, while everything to the east of Hungary is Eastern Europe such as Romania, Ukraine and Belorussia.
The borders of Central Europe were officially delineated during the 19th century when the German Empire with Prussia and just south of them, the Austro-Hungarian Empire (Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy) existed and they contained these regions.
.
So the label Eastern Europe could be a bit offending and insulting for many.
Even according to history Hungarians have fought and worked hardly to be a modern country in the western sense.
They didn’t like that they became part of the Eastern Block by Soviet oppression.
